Baltic Dance Platform

Baltic Dance Platform is an initiative started at the end of 2018 by three Baltic countries’ dance organisations: Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava/STL (Estonia), Lithuanian Dance Information Centre and Latvian Dance Information Centre to promote Baltic contemporary dance internationally, create a stronger collective international presence of the Baltic contemporary dance scene.

The Baltic Dance Platform carries out its aims through daily communication and information exchange, representation in international gatherings for professionals in the field of contemporary dance and organising the biannual 3-days showcase festival.

The showcase festival is aimed at international experts in the field to showcase dance performances from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and introduce the most notable choreographers of contemporary dance in the Baltic countries, giving them international attention and a network.

The next Baltic Dance Platform showcase will take place on April  23rd – 25th, 2026 in Vilnius. 

In addition, the Baltic Dance Platform is represented at the Düsseldorf Tanzmesse and other international meetings in the field.

At the 2024 platfrm, 77 eligible applications were submitted in two categories: full-scale dance performance (including digital performances and dance films) and pitch presentation. 26 applications were received from Estonia, 21 from Latvia, and 30 from Lithuania. Three performances and five pitch presentations were selected from each Baltic country to participate in the event.

Estonia was represented inthe performance category by

• Netti Nüganen’s “The Myth: last day”
• Sveta Grigorjeva with “Dances to Dream, Res(is)t and Sleep to”
• Sigrid Savi and Hanna Kritten Tangsoo  “Cowbody. Oh wow, it’s you!”

• “Unholy Trinity”

The first Baltic Dance Platform ( BDP) showcase took place in May 9–11th 2019 during an international contemporary dance festival New Baltic Dance in Vilnius (www.newbalticdance.lt). BDP presented about 60 Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian dance artists with main performances and pitch sessions, showed 7 performances and multiple audience engagement activities. BDP was visited by over 60 experts, theater- and dance company managers and festival organisers from Europe to Asia and to North-America. 

The second Baltic Dance Platform showcase took place on May 19th–21st, 2022 in Tallinn organised by Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava (STL) which brought together over 200 dance professional and international experts. The third showcase took place in Riga on February 9th to 11th 2024.
