Dance marathon

The Independent Dance Marathon is a 12-hour collective dancing where bodies of different experience and abilities meet on the dance floor to dance for equal opportunities.

The aim of the Independent Dance Marathon is to celebrate the culture of movement and  pay attention to those in need and who are in a weaker position in society. We want to raise awareness of movement and dance, emphasising that people of all physical forms and training experiences are equal and involved on the dance floor. The amount raised as charitable donations goes to support people with reduced mobility.

The idea of the dance marathon was born from Joanna Kalm’s performance “VIVA La VIDA kuni miim lahutab”, which was inspired by the dance marathons of the 1930s and dance as a way to survive and dance that helps resist oppressive modern times!

The first Independent Dance Marathon took place on December 29, 2017 at Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava (STL).
